Okay, this site is very cool. I like this song, needs a cool maybe trumpet sound for the main hook (think Why cant I be you by Cure) and of course shorter with shorter fade. Its a very workable song and with good marketing, they could be a one hit wonder. I can also see some freaky Pink Flamingo dance...so get to it...summer is almost over!

good, like smash mouth, but i found it too repetitive/too long. like i really liked it, but there were two many verses before the bridge, and for the bridge i'd change the vocal filter/effect... yeah, there's a gem there, just needs to be edited before it gets boring. no insult intended.

i'm not sure it's exactly a gimmick song, by which i take it you mean a novelty song? it's definitely walking a fine line, though. somewhere between the presidents of the united states of america and the offspring in terms of gimmickosity/noveltude.

I can't stand gimmick songs. Boring riffs.
Really tight playing, so I have to give it a couple stars.
I thought the first half of the bridge was the best part.

If I was in the producer chair:
I would cut the 'main riff' down to a quirky intro/outro and maybe quote it at the end of the bridge (first half only, which I would make the chorus). The unison hits would be the verse in my version. Which would of course go platinum.

I liked this song a lot. Great site btw, my wife (hehe) checks it religiously everyday. Song has a nice vibe to it, something I would see in a John Waters film, and if it was in a John Waters film, the elvis bit would work perfectly. This is the first song up that I actually ewant to hear other work they have done. Oh, and I hate that if I navigate to another page, it stops playing... and I always forget to open a new window to alleviate the situation.

The production needs work. The vocals are ok, the guitar is ok, but the drums sound like either a generic drum machine, or that you're hitting a box. They're too dry, they need a bit of reverb that seems to be missing.

Sorry 'bout that. I really am trying to avoid using too much "musician" lingo and approach it more as just a huge fan of all sorts of styles of music (which I am, and which I assume everyone else posting here is) and as a music critic (which I guess we're all becoming, writing on this site), both to get my thoughts across to you guys and to give the artist constructive and completely honest feedback about what they're doing, because I think this forum serves both purposes. So I'm trying to find accessible ways to state things without "watering it down" too much, 'cause I think everyone here is intelligent, but I do understand what you're saying, Disney, and I'll take it to heart. For this song, for me, some of its success or failure really does hinge on some of those small details- I guess I'm picking it apart more because I think it's closer to the goal than the last couple of tunes, and I'd like to see 'em take it there.

Ruben, I don't quite understand all the "music" talk but you seem to be bringing up good points. The Elvis thing was an error - you're correct about that. And not because it's "silly", like I said before, but rather because it is, as you say, cringe-inducingly embarrassing.

I'm not usually crazy about distorted vocals, because they usually seem like a gimmick-y way to add interest to a weak vocal. They seem to work here though, as a way to both add sonic excitement and to blend the vocals into the track. This is one of those songs where the lyrics only exist so that the lead singer has something to do while he's carrying the melody- and judging by the scraps of lyrics that pop out through casual listening, maybe we're better off not knowing what they are. I like the wah or phased guitar at the start- in fact, it's disappointing that it disappears when the rest of the band comes in, as it would've sounded cool to have that be the main guitar throughout the song. The groove is solid, and the singer comes in with a hook-y melody, sort of a "Dem Bones" feel, with the backing vocals giving it a 60s pop flair. Everything rolls along fine until we get to the bridge, which at best adds nothing to the track or, worse, detracts from it by not being as good, with a weaker riff and melody, and the lyrics emerging when they probably should've stayed hidden. What really kills the song, though, is the "Elvis" bit, which was so cringe-inducingly embarrassing I nearly hit "stop". The song nearly redeems itself with a good ending, the distorted ranting leading into the vocals reprising the best hook, and a nice counter melody coming in, carrying it through a long fade. Overall, I think if they just 86ed the bridge- which would shave a full minute off the running time- and shortened the breakdown, losing the "Elvis" bit, they'd have a solid, catchy, pop tune.

Yo Disney dawg, your comment made me nervous. I don't think silly lyrics should be a black mark against a band. In fact I generally look favorably upon a band that has a sense of humor. I think the unnatural serious/silly dichotomy blinds critics, or the very least blurs their vision, to really good stuff. That includes all genres. I mean look at Woody Allen. No one ever includes Love and Death in the list of great comedies because it's too silly, but I would take it in a back-alley brawl against Annie Hall any day. Hell, some of the greats have silly lyrics. Look at Wagner! Hey. Listen. I could be overreacting. That's a pet peeve of mine, this inherently biasing "serious" stuff over "silly." Maybe, I'm misinterpreting you. But just in case I'm not why not expand on your misgivings about silly lyircs for the sake of The Community?

It's like the two fillled in personality profiles on eHarmony.com and they found their true loves in the void of cyberspace. And hell that's a cathcy little hook. I'm whistling it now as is my lesbian partner, Head ceased to bop a bit when we entered the bridge, anunimaginative by-the-numbers public works project, but after we got to the other side my head resumed its jerky bopping.
