Ginchy was once my top choice for qc's band cause qc is so literate and funny and Ginchy has some of those same qualities. Ginchy also has this swell tune based on The Catcher in the Rye, one that I read out loud with my grandmother and got her to say "#@&%!" out loud for the first time...

I also liked Ginchy for qc's band for personal reasons: if Ginchy was qc's band, then the dude performing in HAIR on Ginchy's myspace page would be qc...alas, wishful thinking. Ginchy is NOT qc's band...good though!

I like this song a lot too, although not quite as much as Average Terminal. I don't think I've ever heard a musical paean to Catcher in the Rye before. Kind of The Mamas and the Poes. There's actually a band here in Fresno that's been trying to do this type of thing for a while. Boy, are they going to be pissed when they hear this song. I can't wait to show it to them. Indirectly, of course.

ginchy: the graphic becons the Children of the Corn, but in this case Children of the Sea Oats. heh. no offense man.

i think it is brave to write and perform a song with La da de da da.." in the lyrics. that being said, i am not presonally attracted to the music style. not my deaalio so i'd rather not comment.

hell of a great effort though.

Wow man, you think you could explain that a little? I mean, I may only get half a star for how "contrived" my song is, but you get zero stars for your lame unexplained comment that nobody else seems to agree with. Is your criteria for stars strictly based on my songwriting process? Do you not give points for musicianship: ie vocal ability, rhythmic accuracy etc? what about arrangement? what about lyrics? what about song topic? what about production quality? I'm not trying to rag on you, but if you could just explain why it sounds contrived to you I might actually take your rating and comment seriously, as it is, I give your comment zero stars... no, actually, i give you negative 1/2 stars.

that tells me that you are a slave to hook mentality, and your life has lost its meaning. Ginchy has evolved beyond such petty things, into a world where hooks are only for meat and for fishing. Your poor pre-post-modern mind cannot fathom them. On the moon they have no need for hooks at all. They use an extra bridge... on the moon.

I'd love to hear this produced by John Zorn. -0.5 stars because it wasn't. Shy of that, I have to say the song is (trifecta!) unique, quirky and refreshingly different- like a bottle of Inca Kola, but without the weird aftertaste. What is that? Plantain juice? I digress. I see nothing wrong with this song. Perfection? Erm, if it were I'd be dead now right?. Anyway can't wait to hear more.

Wow, thanks for all the great comments people! Lyrically, the chorus is exactly what i want being as Holden narrates the book (Catcher in the Rye) from a mental hospital. The choppiness was meant to be a contrast to the sort of lazy lyrical verse and also illustrate Holden's mood swings and unreliable and inconsitant account of the events that transpire in the book (IE, Jane the girl next door, how he worries about the ducks when the pond freezes in the winter).
As far as the chords go... they sort of found me and they stuck. I don't really have any excuse except that's what came out of me at that moment. Thanks for your great comments everyone! Please comment on my other songs posted in rejects and second stage =)

You guys are almost there, though I felt the singing just a touch too dramatic, and also gotta agree with Dreams in the fact that the chorus just doesn't have it. You got this whole semi-catchy pop thing going for the verse and it's bouncing along, but the chorus just doesn't follow through.

I agree about the chorus being the weak part of this song. I don't care for it bit, but the verses are quite interesting. The tremolo guitar sounds very lovely, but the tones of the distorted guitar doesn't do it for me, and I feel that it's muddiness detracts from the sound overall. Love the sound of eveything else!

Cool sound and strong melodies.... but an awkward chorus in my opinion. Luckily the verses are fantastic.

Vocally, it's a little Morrissey meets the singer from She Wants Revenge, which would be fine if it had the musical substance to back it up. The verses draw me in, but the chorus ("that kind of thinking it can drive a man insane, man insane, man insane") loses me completely. Too choppy. And I don't like the chord progression. If it wasn't for the chorus, I wouldn't be going crazy over this song, but I wouldn't be hating it either. At least, not until the 20th time I'd heard it on the radio in a week and was unable to get the "la da de da da da" part out of my head. That really would drive me insane...

This is a sweet song. Grinchy, keep the 'Man Insane' repetition, I like it. Obviously this is about Salinger's book, Catcher In the Rye. I've read the book recently and that could account for my high rating... that and the La da da de de da's are stuck in my head all day. The song's got this sort of lazy intensity. It also reminds me vaguely of some Alice Cooper song I can't remember the name of. I like the "dorky" vibe too.

Great track. I agree that the repeated 'man insane, man insane' doesn't work as much as the rest of the song. But the whole thing works for me. Sort of a TMBG cut with Nick Cave's Curse of Millhaven. I dig the use of La Da De Da Da Da cut with dark or at least quirkier lyrics. The build up the through the rye doesn't match the beginning of the song for me. I wanted to hear a build up of the non-harmonized lyrics at the end, instead of the through the rye. Never thought I'd say this on RedFizz, but actually think it could be longer.

Overall, cool track.

How can you not appreciate a song that isn't afraid to explore the sensitivity of a toilet seat. I'm just left wondering if it is referring to a seat that is still really warm.......cuz I hate that.
