OK, so...KeavesSharpy: The Fleetwood Mac song to which you were referring is called "Hold Me"...and Ernie - I like that Fleetwood Mac song. Bob Dylan said something to the effect of "amateur songwriters write original songs, and professionals steal". In the pop/rock genre, it is almost inescapable to sound a little like someone else.

There is not a Bob Marley song in the entire BMW library that is particularly difficult to play or understand - why does something as simple as "I love you, you are so beautiful" have to become complex and intellectually challenging to be considered good? I think you're singing and playing from the heart, and that's what music should be about.

I'm a little confused about why anyone cares/respects/affected by the source material of this song. I find it kind of treacly, even moreso know that I know it's about his daughter. Good songwritng isn't about the obvious, it's about taking a commonplace sentiment -- i love you, you are beuatiful, you are totally awesome -- and distancing us from that ubiquitous, banal sentiment through inventive language so we encounter it in a fresh, strange and idiosyncratic way.

I mean this sounds like a sort of canned "emotion" sentiment to a useless helicopter of City X to bridge us between two segments of a WB show. It's fine. It's catchy. But with elemental sopngwriting like this I need stronger, more subtle lyircs.

In short I don't know why you hate your daughter so much.

Pretty good vocal melodies here that make the standard-fare music more bearable for me than it would be otherwise. Good vocals overall. As a song I think it's ok, but to be honest I found it a little stale and unexciting. I mean, it's not bad, but for a song this standard-sounding there has to be some kind of really striking narrative going on to pull me in, and there just isn't for me.

Nice bass work walking and bouncing around the chord progression. The drums sound fun and are one of my favorite things about the song sonically, but the playing is a TAD flat and undynamic. Granted, I realize this type of song doesn't call for over-the-top changes or anything, but I kept wanting a lil change out of them.

Sorry, I'm picky. Tis a good song that just doesn't do as much for me as it will most!

the structure of this song was good. And i agree, it is easy to listen to. Not quite my thing. His voice never really hits a 3rd gear, he has low, lower, and "so beautiful" i think it he may have tried to explore another octive with his vocals for some sort of an intersting bridge it could have made the song better. Drums were pretty generic, nothing really stood out for me on this track, kinda sounds like it was recorded in garage with a 4 track, but it does also sound like he may have had a pre-amp and a spitguard involved, so it tells me he's on the right track. from reviewing the thread and finding out it was all recorded by himself, definatly gets some credit. Overall, it left me feeling like a missed shot at a jack johnson inspired feel.

the guitars remind me of a more laid-back "more than words" byxtreme. The laid-back vocals (notice how "laid back" keeps coming to mind"). This guy also uses "I wrote that song" sub-metatextual device. I like the "oh my god" delivery. But the "so beuatiful" part fo teh lyrics is kind of annoying. This isn't Brown Eyed Girl. This is definitely main-stream pop--it has a nice beat--the drums should stress the brush and lay off being so heavy-handed. I like the harmonies--but again, I was hoping more for the Dylan original of Heaven's Door--that kind of harmonisation would be very effective. I can definitely see this being played on the radio. However, it is unsurprising, and relistens to not add to the song. I give THREE STARS!!! BANZAI!

No, thats a valid point. It always changes how you listen to a song once you know the true meanings and reasons behind it. I've never been one for listening so much to words unless it obvious the artist is trying to make me pay attention to them, and maybe thats a good criticism of this song, there's not enough done to get the message of the song across. The melody and music are sweet, but I didn't get that you were singing to your daughter at all until you told us.

Doh! That does change everything. I mean, I don't mean anything I say really, but it certainly changes the point of the song, doesn't it?

I can't say it makes me like the song any more, but I would give it another star because it.. ah who am I trying to kid? I"m an insensitive #@&%!, and now I have to flog myself.

yeah, my boss called, told me he wants me to go to work in LA for a couple weeks.
Yay. Traveling the world, making my boss rich. blah. I'm supposed to be working on my resume right now, for the contract. Who ever heard of a boss telling his employee to pad his resume? It's just... so.. damned... not music.

BTW, I meant I thought the vocals went off key on purpose. I dunno what I'm typing sometimes. I blame the lack of a right index finger.

Ok, so I'm listening to this for the 3rd time, and I gotta say I like it. I really enjoy the simplicity of this song and the harmonies in it add a sweet sound. I feel like the vocals go off key here and there, but I'm sure that it wasn't purposeful. I don't have any suggestions for you, I think this is a wonderful song and I hope you throw a band together soon and go out and play all over the place.

dammit, somone tell me the name of the Fleetwood Mac song that this plagiarizes? And which part? It passes and I hear it, but then it's gone. OK Maybe plagiarism is too strong a word. I mean, who remembers Fleetwood Mac anyway?

This song is way too sappy for my taste. But then, did it work? I mean, does Abigail still love you in this long distance relationship? That's the real guage on whether or not this song is good. Did it make her croon and have phone sex with you? If not, if she left you and started going out with Vic from the local garage, well then... back to the drawing board I guess.

Ernie's got talent. I just can't help feeling that better work would come out if Abigail broke his heart. I'm a hateful, spiteful, jaded person today.

ah why not! good song, interesting, kind of a almost sterile tightness and sound about it, and interesting compression makes the song dense, and strangely: I have nothing against 1 4 5 chord jams!~ like to hear another please

This is a sweet song. The melody in the chorus is nice, and I like the backups. I also like the echo'ish overlay towards the end. All in all, the song fits together well, nothing random about it. I can see some college kids diggin' on this one, which, of course, isn't a bad crowd to have on your side. Good job.
