Big thanks to Will for pointing this song out to me in the forum; it's superb. Everything fits perfectly into its spot in the song...perfect length, sweet, plaintive vocals that never drift into smarm. I love it. Red Fizz needs a Hall of Fame! Well, two...one for gems and one for glorious stinkers. This goes to the former, for sure. Everyone mentioned GBV, but produce it slightly differently and it's pure Finn Brothers/Crowded House.

The dude undersold his song by telling everyone he was just trying to imitate Guided By Voices - a band who try to imitate everyone else--and admit it. Still love this song--and not too GBV btw, just fyi, if everyone insists on using acronyms. This is definitely teh direction the band should travel in - this is maybe a top 20 hit in Britain.

Just to put my 14 cents and pocket lint into the forum...I've had your song stuck in my cranium since the day your song was featured. I, like drfringe, played it for my wife (and 6 year old son) and they both enjoyed it as well. Seriously, it is beautifully done...the melody you sing is drawn out and delivered so sweetly that it is a pleasure to absorb and live with. I love it and look forward to hearing more from you. You did freak the #@&%! out just now though. Was the criticism really that bad? Don't let it get to you so much, for everyones sake but especially yours. This is art. Art appreciation is a subjective business. You said that you're proud of this music and I believe you have every right to be, so stick with that feeling and accept that not everyone is going to share your vision. Some will. There's room for everyone at the table. So, do what you do and keep your heart light (so that you can continue making great songs).

in your case I dont think there's any need for improvement, which is not what i would say to everybody, - but then again, metalheds and rappers wont get this/ as much for sure, and probably vice versa, so its double edged right?

you got attention and noticed which is good in this biz and people respect the vibe for what it is

Not my cup of tea but I won't ding them much for it. It sounds to me like they have gotten a good start & if they can stay together for a couple more years they will turn out some good stuff. Definitelt hit the GBV sound. I liked the feel and harmonies in this, and the meandering bassline. Even the muddy, murky mix is charming in a warm, blankety way. As a song, however, I'm not pumped on it in any catchy or deeply meaningful way. ENjoyable, but... It's like a girl who's not that hot but REALLY knows how too dress well, accessorize, and has great, tasteful makeup. I'd hit it, but not in the morning.

It's totally relevant criticism. Most indie bands I'm hearing today are venerating the Beatles. It's obvious in their sound. And most of them, like Mushroom Band or whatever, doesn't really have the depth the Beatles have, so it doesn't work. My advice is to work on your creativity, not the recording process.

It's good stuff, for what it is. I'd love to hear bands with this much writing talent try to take it to some kind of novel, original level though. The way I see it, is they're playing a progressing in exactly the way bands that came up with this type of progression would play it. I mean that's not a bad thing per se, it's just... too predictable for me.

While there's nothing particularly bad about this song, it doesn't really stand out to me. The melody seems to follow the bass line, which, at least in my opinion may be why I have a hard time understanding the lyrics. I don't really hear anything musically that makes me go wow. I take that back, harmony! Thank God for bands who actually use this underused tool of beauty! Still, this is just average for me. It's times like these when I believe our people can be at peace, and farm subsidies can be dealt more fairly to the peoples of France and England. What a wonderful song! What a great band! They have certainly positioned themselves in Indie rock territory, and made it their own. The drone doesn't mimic anything like Jesus & Mary Chain--or even trash bands like Stargazer. There's mid-Beatles there, and the harmonies are beautiful. But they wear their influences lightly. I like his accent coming through. Dudes- they're from Bordeaux. By French I mean Parisian. These guys are the kings of France. I love them. They need a name change. What would I change about this song? Nothing--except I'd like the ending guitars to drone out just a little more. The lyrics are also very nicely handled--I don't like it when people talk about singing other songs--that's been overdone: like Eastern Europeans telling you they're writing a poem, within that poem--dude I know you're writing a #@&%!ing poem--and I don't care if your heart is caged like a bird under the oppressive rule of Ceausescu. Only gripe. #@&%!ing fantastic. TheBuyer: is this too effusive?
