Musically they have some new things going on for rap. In the background at least, the vocals are uninspired and nothing jumps out as a memorable lyric in terms of being clever or catchy. Whatever is going on at 1:31 is good, they prob. should stick to producing and leave the rapping to those with more style.

I like it, not great but good, I like the added melody not found in most rap tunes, it sounds very eastern and offsets the harshness of the drums sounds..the back up vox are great, should be more of them..tempo is a little bleh, though, and I'd really like a nice thumping bass line to offset the melody.

voice sounds good, house of pain-esque, love the pipa... the beat is very basic, though, tempo is a little plodding ...just lays there.....lyrics dont really do much for me, which is a big part of rap, to me, it has to grab you, be brutal and poetic at the same time. But I'm a B.I.G. guy.

I think you'd earlier mentioned some sort of feature, like mabye lining up 5 second stage/ rejections and letting the RF community vote on it being placed on a different stage?

That'd be neat. Also mabye might it a little easier for you guys to do this sort of feature recycling? Ah well.

Good on ya eyeball, if anything that got featured deserved a second listen, this one definatly merrits it.

yeah, sing, we've gotten a lot of second-stage-worthy songs, but very few featurable ones. though of course, history may prove me wrong, as i am now featuring songs i once second-staged. but that could be more a function of the sliding curve one necessarily uses to judge the current pack of submissions.

Everything about this is great except the bass is out of tune with the lead pipa loop. It really distracts me, this would really work otherwise...still good, but this could really hit the pocket with that one small change.

I really like the lead vocals, I love the drums and that main "hook" sample sounds great.

1. Technical ability
2. Good tone choice
3. Playing the right part for the song
4. Feeling
5. Originality

This gets:

1) 4 (Samples and rapping are great, bass needs to be tuned to main loop)
2) 5 (All the tones and samples are great)
3) 5 (The parts are all fine)
4) 4 (The vibe gets hurt by that bass not matching the tune of the sample)
5) 5 (I like the ideas in this one)

Overall: 4.6

Banjo is cool. Not a big rap fan at all. But I do like the fact you used real instruments (or at least it sounds like it)! Dont like all the F-Bombs. just looses its punch after you hear 20x in a song. I will say that its not great, but it doesnt suck either.

Cheers!

Yea... this came from nights of smoking weed with my buddy, and reletive newness to the world of sampling. Only our 2nd or third flow really... as time went on we got bored with this. (this is 5 or 6 years old... holy crap that's weird to say.)

Since that point, I have made more interesting and complicated beats, moved away from the standard ghettobox drum loop, and gotten a little more experimental, but I always felt like this song had a little bit of sincerity to it, that I'm not sure I've been able to recapture (one of the reasons I stopped.) And it still makes me bob my head, regardless of the crap town recording.

See - Mic straight into computer... no effects or compression or anything.

There is a good instinct at work here. It's a cool sound and I do love the pipa. I just wish the exotic beat and sound were matched with an equally exotic vocal arrangement. That type of rap where you emphasize the ryming wordsby stretching their pronunciation is very confining and lends itself to repetiton. I forgot what kind of meter that is, I'm sure there is someone here to let me know.

This would have benefited from some weird changes instead of the loop. But it felt like the impulse to do something different was here and that's worth a lot.

anyhow--I think the banjo flourishes could have been better mixed with the vocals--they could be brought more to the front and really play with the vocals--less heavy bassline and drums, keeping the pulse right at the beginning just after the opening bajo lines would have been beautiful. I like ''mother#@&%!er" when it's said in a satisfying manner. This was said in a satisfying manner. So I would say: bassline, heavy drums--keep the excellent pauses; bring out your banjo, and it's a killer.
