ok are you actually british? it sounds a little brit? maybe I do hear some nice things going on. It reminds me of some of the RadioHead vocals and somebody else as well. It does have a happy bouncy feel to it. The melody sticks and it sounds like it was performed in a cozy fresh amosphere. I think its relaxed and inspiring as well to hear some of these lively elements come across in a studio album. I think this is the best of 3 and look forward to more stuff guys. Keep it up.

As far as the review, I dont do justice to some of the other critics, I know but time and life are limited. Just smile at the end of the day:)

If you can mine I'll can yours ;) No, this is actually a nice song. Nicely flowing backing track throughout the song, and I think the very straightforward transitions between acoustic and electric guitars are effective. The structure is also very straightforward and easy to get into, which gives you a good foundation to play on and to make yourselves stand out in your expression. This is, for me something that the song lacks in: creativity. Don't get me wrong, I do understand that you're not aiming for a song with two dozens of little sounds flying around whichever way. I just find myself wanting more things that stand out from the solid foundation (perhaps more dynamic elements, for instance things that allow to build in the song. The little synth before the second refrain was a nice addition, to mention one thing), because without those things (could also be a melodic variation somewhere) the song gives me a slightly cold and impersonal feeling to it, which I don't think you quite intended. I agree that there is power in the choruses, but I find myself wanting less of things like the repeated percussive strumming between chorus and verse, since it becomes just another part of an already solid foundation.
About the vocals, I think you (or whoever the singer is) do execute them, again.. solidly, perhaps you could tone down the slight "rasp" I hear in the held notes. The thing that bothers me though is that you use very much of one expression in your voice when singing this song, and it's a very stylized expression (possibly using your mouth open too wide, as someone mentioned). It's the kind of singing that I find most effective in an edgy, rocking background, but not in this kinder, more middle of the road environment. It means that for me the music and the vocals don't really match, and after listening a few times I feel the voice can get rather annoying, even. It's more than anything "expression" you use so much in the song. There was a good moment in that break towards the end, vocally, when you went into falsetto for a while, but the other way of singing this is still too predominating for me. Speaking of the break, I did get a lot Cold Play in that little part, and listen to Chris Martin: he doesn't exactly wiggle his voice around, but he has just enough variation between the almost lazy, laid back singing, and the more powerful singing. Just enough to give his voice texture, and that makes it effective and for me not tiresome to listen to.
Although I give you 2.5 stars, remember that I think the package is solid, it's just that the voice could use some work.

and you're right, it is powerful, i'm not sure what to do with them, i try to avoid them in my own creations, and yet, i'm inspired or influenced by what i've heard. typically, it's just me and an acoustic, so i'm not liable to sound like a band... i typically mention it, just to make sure the artist knows. sometimes i write something, and i'll think, that sounds familiar, do i know that, and i'll ask a bunch of people, and they might all say no, but i might still think yes. it might take me a year to feel confident one way or the other, but if i like it, i might go with it, i might just not feel confident that it's mine (as if anything i create is mine, it just somehow happens). i wouldn't have thought dave mathews, only because you can sing high notes, other than that, i don't hear it, not like that guy the other day.

i think this song is what the public wants, hence the comparisons... haven't listened to enough of coldplay to verify from my perspective, but that didn't trigger anything for me. i think they're talented, though, but another band i don't listen to... if i listen to recent music, i put on xm radio and i have no idea who i'm listening to, unless i really care, and then i forget quickly after.

I don't have any bad blood. I just feel like sometimes, making comparisons is very powerful. I don't think we sound like Dave Mathews band, but if unkelsam thinks we sound like Coldplay, I'll take it, they are one of the most popular bands in the world right now. But, that said, they are also one of the most hated ;) I have been happy with the review on redfizz. It is hard to get an inch here sometimes, and I am as guilty as the next man, so I welcome the bash and take it in stride. Hopefully we all win when we get some insight into what the public wants. As David Gilmour says "to guess what the public wants is a fools game".

i must have been really strict that morning, i think this is a 3.5-4 star song, i mentioned it was radio ready, it's just those melodic similes made me score low...

but if i heard this on a radio, i'd think it was some famous band i don't know the name of

sorry, i should clarify, you don't sound like chicago at all, i never bought one of their albums either, and it's funny, i never named them, but i had the same exact unholy 5... bad company was an honorary 6th...

it's just that when the song starts out, i love the vocal, but the melody reminds me of some song, and i can't put my finger on it, but the more i play it in my head, without the words, it gets filled in by that chicago song (which i think is a good song, creatively, just never was into chicago). no offense meant, really.

what is it with dave mathews, i think he has a lot of talent, i just have no interest in being exposed to his energy.

I don't have the mid 90's song, but Chicago actually really hurts me...They are one of what I call the "Unholy Five"...Kansas, Boston, Chicago, Foreigner and Journey. I just can't stand any of those bands...

haven't remembered what it reminded me of, it's got a little Chicago melody at the start...

"Hard to say I'm sorry"

Everybody needs a little time away
I heard her say, from each other
Even lovers need a holiday
Far away from each other

but it's not that, it's something more recent that sounds like that, and the voice is similar. i stay away from dave mathews, so i don't know if that's him.

my original statement still stands for me, i think it's radio friendly and while its reminded me of stuff, it's not strong enough to distract me

I hate all the semi good bands that are just good enough, good production but remind you of all the alt - pop, positive, yeah yeah, semi dave mathews style that you cant rightly criticise or explain how you could improve, post another with enough hooks to tear into

hate the open chord dreamy ya ya feel though 1.5

and I may have more to say

This grew on me over the course of its three minutes. Has a simple beauty and I do like the vocals quite a bit, but true I wish I could hear more words - guess that's where liner notes come in, eh? I could see this with slightly altered and higher quality production sounding quite amazing.

I would have given it a higher rating if the lyrics were better articulated. Style IS important. I just think that if the lyrics are trite or profound, one shouldn't have to decipher the syllabic structure of the words to figure that out. Just me.

nicely done

don't like the occasional synth sound at 1:30, but don't really mind it

i think it's really well done, i think the issue is that if the hooks present in this song were developed or played up more, the song would sound too familiar...

i'm hearing a couple songs, but it's too distant for me to remember them fully...

so my attention stays on this song, which is good.

at this rate, it's just a nice song in that genre, that's radio ready

obviously, the talent of the band is high

i'm torn between 2.5 stars and 3, it doesn't move me enough i think to go to 3, even though the performance is worthy of 3 or more stars

chorus is great. vocals in the verses seemed off to me, like you were singing with your mouth open too wide. you guys got a little too fruity at 2:12 too. but right after that part, it goes back to being great and ends like an STP song would. enjoyable. would like to hear more of you.
