I read all of the comments and still don't know what yall are talking about. And I don't care. This lacks the grit of Otis Rush or the energy of Luther Allison. That said, it is a competent enough kind of blues that I can't get enough of. I like Willie's singing better than his harp. I wish his vocals were more up front. I wish his harp were a little nastier, run through a Fender amp or something. Still every single note is tasty and delectable. The solo flat out smoked. I would be proud to call it mine. It is not the fault of the guitar solo that the rest of the song does not meet its energy level. If ya got more, keep em coming.

I don't know if Willie is still kicking. I left Ocala 7 years ago. I just ran him through Yahoo at least as of 2002 he had a solo house gig at a restaurant . The newspaper gave him a nice review, though in interest of fair disclosure, the writer was the ex-wife of our bass player:

"Throughout the meal, we enjoyed the down-home musical talents of Willie Green, The Yearling’s “one-man house band.” The evening was punctuated by spontaneous applause from patrons as Willie played a wide range of heartfelt blues songs, accompanied by his guitar and harmonica. Willie’s brand of entertainment is ideally suited to the establishment and perfectly rounds out the experience."

There was a picture. Willie finally figured out how to use those around the neci harmonica holders!

aaronlife. Thanks for the comments. The group was a little scizophrenic. Willie Green was known around town as more of a laid back "delta-type" performer who played solo. He would play guitar and "sing" his harp parts in a wail that sometime actually sounded like a real harp. He would do that live with us to just to goof the audience. We were known a very high energy "marshall-stack" blues/rock group. I met Willie in a music store one day and took him to our studio. He sat down solo and did about 8 songs. But the harp was his thing and he wanted us to back him. I hope to get back to Florida one day and dub those original 8 songs off the DAT. Maybe I will post them here.

this is awesome, jam, and the guitar playing rocks, but i do have to admit it kind of shines a little too much during the solo, like the whole band kind of ramped it up for you to do your thing... and it seemed a little like, woah, where the #@&%! did that come from...

kind of like cruising along in an old gm big block v8 4 barrel dual exhaust, mosyin', with your girl or whatever, and some slow poke is in front of you, and you step on it, break loose the tires, scream past the car, and you're like, YEAH, that was awesome, and she's like, "why the #@&%! did you do that, you scared the #@&%! out of me, was that really necessary?!!" and then she's in a bad mood the rest of the night and there's no sex...

anyway, the point is, great tune, great playing, but the first half of the solo was a little out of place for this particular song, then it fit right in and willie came in with the harp, i think it was awesme, it just needed more self-restraint, however, i bet ol willie loved it and that's what probably matters...

this reminds me a lot of james cotton, though not as stoned. i'd love to hear more, especially your solos, i can forgive the leadfoot, there's not enough blues on here...

As for my opinion, well. it's pretty much straight forward blues as far as I can tell. The only blues that moves me is the down and dirty OLD delta blues played by the greats in the 20's and 30's. I don't know how people can really diferentiate blues bands of this type here, from one another. They all play basically the same exact thing.

Wille Green lived in a shack. A shack that was cut up into 4 rooms. Wille lived in what would have been the closet where you would keep your rake and shovel. Willie couldn't read or write. Willie was a horrible alcoholic. But we would pick him up from his hovel, get him a suit at the Salvation Army, keep him sober and get him to the gig. There he would be mesmerizing. Even if he forgot all the words and just played chorus after chorus of harp, they loved him. We opened for Pat Traver, Leon Russel, Foghat, David Allen Coe, and others. No matter how big the headliner was, they treated Willie Green like royalty. The Real Deal.

You know what? #@&%! the bull#@&%!. I didn't write this song, sing it, or play more than one solo. Its worth five stars. I will deduct .5 for my solo.
