ghengus23: great down dirty country rock feelin' from the start. Reminds me of social distortion. Not sure if...

Great recording on vocals. Good quaility all around, but it sounds like a children's song instead of a parody on nursery rhythms.

Oops. In my previous comment I said I played drum sounds through Ableton Simpler. It was actually the Impulse instrument, not Simpler. Ahhh... now I can sleep at night.

Add this to the growing stack of stuff that I really like. The lyrics/vox are sweet and sincere, simultaneously serious and whimsical. "...a summer left like cinderella," this reeks of Beatles. or " for the ball with just one shooooe," Listen to Beach Boys-Thats Not Me, " what I could be to just one girrrrrllll. Spooky. The tempo feels like taking a summer walk. I'll have to throw this on the iPod and give it a try. I couldn't resist picking up my gitter and playing along. This artist personifies what I like about this place. This song was a carnival for my brain. I do wish the vocals were just a little less sibilant.

I tried to hate this with everything in my body becuase of that picture. But i just couldn't. This is good, and it pisses me off, becuase i really don't often like this.

Thanks for the comments. Mr. Bratty re: creative process - I tend to just goof around alot with different sounds. The 'drums' on this were actually a bunch of sounds I recorded of an old, unplayable violin I've got laying around. Did things like tapping it with guitar strings, blowing through f holes, whatever. Then I play them with Ableton Live Simpler instrument which lets me mutate them quite a bit. Ableton's the only thing I've ever used so I can't compare but I really like it.

Gosh, this one is hard. There is a definite Marcy Playground type thing going on here...not in sound but concept. The song has quite a few catchy things about it, but also seems as though it will defy standard radio convention enough not to squeak through.

Produced well, the sounds are imaginative and well done, the lyrics at times are very interesting and at other times sound like a childrens song...I wouldn't start out with "Dish ran away with the spoon" because it is the first foray for the lyrics and I think people would turn it off. It immediately sounds like a joke song, but it isn't

Just try and make the music more radio-esque (try a deep 808 bass drum or something for the rhythm) and try and make the lyrics a little less child accessible and this may work.

1. Technical ability
2. Good tone choice
3. Playing the right part for the song
4. Feeling
5. Originality

This gets:

1) 5 (The playing is great)
2) 4 (Sound choice is quite good)
3) 2 (A little slow, and it lacks big rythm...also lyrical choice....)
4) 3 (Wish it did more, more groove perhaps?)
5) 5 (I'd say very original)

Overall: 3.8

i'm curious as to the creative process. like, how do you choose the sounds? do you hear it in your head that way and then build it, or do you just experiment around until you find something you like? i would love to be able to do stuff like this. i have a bad case of home studio envy!

nice arrangement, but i thought the lyrics were very weak. i know thats probebly why alot of people like the song, maybe its just not my style. anyway..the industrialish drum noises in the background could go away. it was a little inapropriate to the cool arrangement you had going on.
