Happy Rhodes - FYI, all 11 of Happy's albums are now on YouTube.

Plus, all of Happy's albums can be heard free via streaming audio at:

Full-length concerts can be seen on her MySpace page (click View My...Videos under her picture):

This is all written by a fan (Vickie). I have blanket permission to place Happy's music anywhere I want. She hates self-promotion and just wants her music to be heard. She's not trying to "make it" or whatever such ambitions are expected of a female singer-songwriter-musician who makes music because it's what she loves to do.

She lives on a farm in upstate New York and finally released her 11th album, and her first since 1998's Many Worlds Are Born Tonight, called Find Me (now on CD Baby and iTunes).

Happy Rhodes started making music when she was 11, when her mother gave her a guitar to play with. She started writing music soon after, and had become an accomplished songwriter by the time she was 14.

At 17 she began working as an apprentice engineer at a recording studio. The studio's owner heard her voice and songs and gave her free time to record everything she'd written up to that point. He introduced her to Kevin Bartlett, who owned Aural Gratification, a small, cassette-only label to release his own albums. He persuaded her to gather up all the individual songs and release them on his label. They found that she had enough for 3 albums (which became Rhodes I, Rhodes II, and Rearmament) and soon after came a 4th, Ecto. The "1st4" were released on hand-dubbed cassettes for several years before they were re-released on CD in 1992.

In 1991 Happy released Warpaint, her first album conceived and recorded as an album, and the first to be released on CD. Warpaint was followed by Equipoise, RhodeSongs (a compilation of earlier songs, plus some rarities and a cover of Bowie's "Ashes To Ashes"), Building The Colossus and The Keep, a beautiful compilation of acoustic versions and more rarities).

In 1997 Happy recorded the lush and science-fiction tinged Many Worlds Are Born Tonight. It was recorded mostly at home with the vocals recorded in her bathroom. She and Aural Gratificaton parted ways and Happy signed with a new label called Samson Music. They provided the artwork, a wide release, a small amount of promotion and a few live showcases for Many Worlds, then dropped her because they didn't know how to market her music and realized that she didn't fit in with their vision of the label's future.

On her own now, Happy released her 11th album, Find Me, funded by day jobs and self-released. She and her husband, musician Bob Muller, are building a home studio so that Happy will have an easier time of making music in the future.

Some musicians might be connected to Happy and not even know it. Her "day job" is hand-assembling high-end equipment for Dangerous Music.

It's my desire to share her music with as many people and in as many ways as possible. Thank you for listening.

- Vickie

You got it Babar. I just posted another one, an old song. This isn't Happy though, just to be clear. Happy doesn't do the Internet other than e-mail. I'm just a fan who has her permission to post her music anywhere I want. - Vickie

Yes great talent, but I'm losing the song. Maybe after a few listens I'll find it. Good textures and a killer vocal control.
Nova Vox a ? Do breath sounds also turn you off?
Don't change anything.

Happily, I will follow where this voice takes me. Beautifully done...Love the nod to Kate Bush, but find more originality here than in most musicians' work...

Collective Heart was quite good, So I had to give a listen to this one. Again vocal talent is supreme. I personally would a like to hear a kickin' groove at the end that makes you want to move....

Talent yes, commercial appeal no.

I'm looking for gems, this isn't one.

Talent doesn't mean good.

Oh, and I can hear your mouth opening in the delay, that's gross.

I noticed on the myspace page that you occasionally use Bon Lozaga and Hansford Rowe for various projects. Good choices. Both great players.

Winter (from the 1998 album Many Worlds Are Born Tonight)

How does my sorrow find me here?
I have lived
I have loved
Enough for all my time

And how stealthily
You come to me
I have loved
I have lost

Now all that remains
Is which one to

(From you I hide, by and by)
(From you I hide, by and by)

So how does my sorrow find me now?
Am I changed?
Have I loved?...
