I love when Will goes, BRAVO! It's your signature.

It's funny. Like when folks here say GUS WATKINS! It'd be neat if GUS WATKINS! (the phrase) actually escaped the pages of Redfizz and became a world-wide expression used to convey surprise, joy, and utter amazement all at the same time. Is that ok with you Gus? Could also parlay into some record sales eventually.

Excellent intro/singing. Like the recording overall. Great sound on the keys-kind of circus hockey rinky. Loose snare rocks. Effective use of cliches combined with unique images such as a licorice candle. Like the Games w/out Frontiers whistle.

Kind of like that the tune stays in the pocket and never bursts. It leaves me wanting in a good way. Album placement is a factor here--I'd follow it with a snappy tune. Maybe you do.
Anyway--Itchy, Keep doing this thing here.

10 Second Rule: I hope this doesnt sound like this for the whole song.

And it doesn't. I havent always been the biggest fan of this project. But this is actually pretty good. It sounds really dated, and i don't like that kinda stuff. But these guys do it really well on this one. Good job.

10 Second Rule: Wow, interesting snare sound, guitar is complimenting well...good intro when vocal comes in.

The production here is great because it tricks you. You think it will be weak because the sounds themselves are very strange, but they perfectly compliment each other and the vocals are really really well delivered and recorded.

I like the backup vocals too, very familiar and yet not rehashed. I don't really go for this style as general listening material, but the quality and artistry are undeniable.

I love those organ tones with the quick delay on them, too cool.

Really really well done.

1. Technical ability
2. Good tone choice
3. Playing the right part for the song
4. Feeling
5. Originality

This gets:

1) 5 (Musicianship is wonderful)
2) 5 (Tones are great, vocals recorded pristinely, everything sounds great)
3) 5 (Arrangement is very good and song delivers)
4) 4 (The feel is very good, warm and inviting, but the concept is not my favorite)
5) 5 (Very original, I really like this)

Overall: 4.8

i agree that there is a lot of britpop influence here, but i certainly wouldn't lay it all on the beatles. and, greyfield nailed the of montreal nod. but this is very current. i don't know about "commercial" appeal, but i believe this song could certainly go beyond college radio, as well as all of itchy's stuff. and it don't be hurting my ears or nothin'! (very important feature to me these days for some reason)

The production is like a velvet tongue licking my ear. I love the lightly played snare. It is crisp and you can hear the snares rattle. Listening to the kick is like being socked in the head with a feather pillow. The low analogie (sounds like a reed inst) pad at 3 o'clock helps make the bass fat. In the chorus the higher pitch pad at 11:00 is the kind of cheesy sound that I adore. The bouncy delayed key part is choice as well. The double tracked acoustic gitters are mixed like everything and are suitably sublime; they're there if you care. Stacked vocals are superb and harmonies as well. The lyrics are endearing and unpretentious, if not clever. I utilize whistle solo's in my own stuff often, so of course I am biased in this regard. Nice job. Destroys Ed Van on contact. Take that ya wanker.

Unfortunately, everything that I love about this is exactly why it can't be commercial. It is very linear and has little movement. To me it is like a pleasant tube ride down a lazy river. But the masses want excitement. The snare would need to have the snot beat out of it. It would need some of those annoying hi hat things, tom tom fills, and crashes. Should IB ever sell out, I would love to write the bass line. It would move, groove, and walk right out the door. It would be generally peppier all over. Crap. This guy writes great songs. If he does the things that give his songs mass appeal, I'll still have a copy of this version. I'm plenty happy.

crazy mad for this song! If Of Montreal had a more rational older brother, they'd be it. Catchy as hell! The whistling made me smile, but right after the whistling there seems to be a 'blank space' where something was supposed to happen, but didn't. Still, that didn't stop me from loving it. (I'll just insert my own whistle solo in that spot, I guess!) Excellent.
