Uh oh. The inevitable comparisons have begun. I'm pretty sure we listen to many of the same things, and from what I've heard, we have the same instruments in our 'studios'. I don't know who's been at this longer; frankly we're pretty hacky - just well practiced. We're coming up on our third birthday as a band; if you'd like to get us something, we're registered at Target.

Yup, I ripped a title. I make no secret of my love of Badfinger, and it's a direct callout to those who know the reference. It worked on you, so that's one less person I have to get to hear my band.

But this spot is for review, not rebuttal. soooo...I listened to all your tunes, and think you're a fine songwriter. You've got a Syd Barrett making out with Harrison thing going, but more accessible. Some musical and lyrical references seemed a bit heavy to lift, but they work and integrate into the songs nicely. You definitely pay more attention to lyrics than I do, but I think Johnny Tamborine is the greatest artist ever to have lived, so there's that.

The dry production on your tunes captures the mood/genre that you're going for; though I'd love to hear them remixed, that'd probably kill some of the charm. The keys are sweet. I love all the keyboard parts you do - they're tasteful, well-arranged, and just what they should be, though sometimes they're a bit forward/hot in the mix. Holly has Hobbies is great, and a perfect example.

The only problem I see is that all your songs have you double-tracking your vocals, pretty much all the time. I want to hear some 'oohs' and 'ahhs' and solo voice - and it ain't there.

In conclusion, maybe I'll spend more time on my crappy lyrics, and you'll spend less time singing yours twice. And eventually we'll figure out that nobody cares - they liked it all just fine when we were both (r)aping the 60's in our own way.

Thanks all for your comments, very helpful. I could have gone with a bunch of different organ sounds (warbly almost won!), but in the end I decided on the sharp straight organ tone. While I'm pleased with the tone, I admit I gave it too much prominence in the mix, so that it does become shrill instead of just sharp. Sorry about everyones' right ears. I'll fix that when I get back to the bat cave.

This is a tune that would probably impress everyone a lot more in a live setting. A Hammond organ with some low end and a little tremelo would really do the trick. I own an M100 series; I'm in LA, Itchy Bro is more than welcome to use it for rerecording the track.

i love the guitar, i dig the keys, they're kind of playful at that pitch... my only critique is the fade out ending... too fast, i thought the song was going to continue fading out and then it just ended... i'd resolve that ambiguity somehow. at times i felt i was listening to a george harrison track off revolver... sort of... this is cool.

I don't find anything in this song that really stands out to me, and i think the lyrics get kinda funky for my taste at parts. But for what this is, it's really nice. I enjoyed listening to it. I wouldn't run out and buy it, but if it were on the radio, i'd let it play.

The double-track vocals are nice. The melody is catchy but not too sugary. The organ is piercing. I'd eq it so some of that shrillness goes away. Bring up the other instruments too. Right now the most prominent sounds are the organ and voice. I could really hear "ooh's" around 2:50 just holding out whole notes and carry on throughout the rest of the song.

All hail, itchy Bro.
(If I haven't already), I'd like to go on record as being an iB fan. That this may not be my absolute favorite iB does not lessen its impact. Best stuff around. Brings to mind that ficticious supergoup featuring George H, and Andy P.
Pretty much what Strung said on the mix. I got so excited about the snare drum on Brass Tacks that I featured snare recently. I want to hear more of it here. And the bass has such a great rumbly r&b sound, I would like it featured more up front in the mix. In the early days the fab 4 would get a kick when they snuck a clinker past Martin. I think I heard a slightly noticable punch on the bass in the middle just before the key mod.
But you don't need "look how clever my ears are" ears to appreciate this'un.

if this isn't "in the can", i'd say change that organ sound. on headphones it's not too bad but it is rough coming out of my speakers. or maybe just lower it an octave, or the volume. i don't know. if you wanted to do that, i'd also suggest you increase the drums volume and and also bass a little. the guitar is swell, sounds good and everything.
