to MasterKidney again... the party fling girl is also the guy's girlfriend... or atleast, Mickey sees her as his girlfriend, and she saw him as a fling... The poor country boy didn't stand a chance.

Thanks Itchy, Paul Simon is a brilliant lyricist! It's an honour to be compared to the man who wrote the album "graceland"... lyrics and music are both perfect in that one.

To Masterkidney. It was the xmas party fling girl... with the baker (it's meant to be a sexual metaphor)

I've listened many times but never really paid attention to the lyrics, all I ever remember is the title, and the drinking rum / cheer to come rhyme.

Anyway, I just read the lyrics for the first time. Most off lyrics are only good to sing, not to read, but these are great. Very Paul Simon esque. Where he's talking about one thing, but he's also painting many other pictures, and you sort of forget what the song was about. And it never matters truly, cause it's only pop and roll, but still. You wonder, who's this Mickey person who has to treat women like men? I thought we were just hanging out drinking rum and watching Oprah?

Great song. Like all the violins or whatever that was . I bet if released to public it would do very well, instant fan base. It is not the kind of song I would listen to frequently, maybe once in a while. But that is more personal preference than sayong anything about the song. I was CONFUSED about who is mixing batter, the x-mas party fling girl, or the guy's girlfriend?

likewise, the lyrics are brilliant, they're perfect, makes me want to know all about what inspired them... who's mickey, what words were so bizarre, so bizarre... this doesn't happen to me too often, usually i just enjoy the words as an accompaniment to the melody, in this case, they get their own track in my mind, which develops an inquisitiveness... i remember things like this when i was a kid, listening to S & G... hearing things like "and the light, from the streetlamp, paints a shadow on my wall..." and it opening up the vision in my own mind, it's poetry set to music. anyway, happy holidays to you and yours

yeah, it's been stuck in my head for a lot lately too, it's truly a classic, this one has a bright future ahead of it... if Simon and Garfunkel wrote this 35 years ago, millions and millions of people who know it by now, and it'd be on the radio all season... but it's your baby, this is just the beginning... best wishes for a merry season

I woke up singing this song. I hadn't listened to it in nearly a week. So I'm calling ity my favorite christmas song of 2006. I have downloaded it and will listen through the holidays -- at least.

Great Song , Great Job!
(changed my mind about the ending; it's greatness too)

Another fine fine song.

I wasn't comfortable with the dissonance that starts at :54 and shows up later, but everything else is so immaculate I feel bad even mentioning. It's obviously intentional, I just don't care for it, everything else is so beautiful.

I love the musical break at 1:52. That's just lovely.

But that ending, man, I can't believe anyone (who likes the rest of the song) wouldn't love the ending. It's so creepy pretty. You think the song's over and then what's this, you've got more, and it's different, and it's excellent? awesome!

Intriguing songwriting. I enjoyed this one more than once and will undoubtedly again. I agree with The Taste, didn't need the bizzaro ending, but hey, it's your world. Shoulda been the feature today -- fo sho.

I like the vocals on this. The song is cool, but it really sounds like it wants to breathe more, via a full band type treatment. I guess I'm saying the acoustic-y feel, to me anyway, doesn't seem to serve the song fully. It's nice, don't get me wrong,'s like, I could hear the full bombastic version of this song as the big radio single, and this version the b-side released to fans or performed in the intimate radio interview. Does that make sense?

I really enjoy the dissonant progressions through the "chorus" portions. The backing vocals are just right throughout the song. However, I'm not so sure about 3:23 and onward; a final building climax is not necessary in my mind. Plus, the simplicity of this song is what appeals to me.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.. this is a new one, so I'm still a little sensitive about it... after a certain point I can put some distance between me and the song, but I'm not up to that point yet.

To guitarmello, I think something peculiar was certainly on of my best, if not my best... I'm pretty proud of this one though

Screw the critics, this is one of the best submissions I have heard on this site.
All around good songwritting!
Christmas time the kids were singing
"Hallelujah, Halleluja"
I was outside drinking rum, waiting for my christmas cheer to come

Know that the wisemen often said, act the fool, just when no one's there

Oprah's on the television, sharing wisdom, sharing vision
I'm so sick of hearing it, I think I'd rather smoke a cigarette...

To clear my aching head, to soothe my aching heart, which, you slowly ripped apart, you tore.

Walk towards the door

Down south where he came from, his mum used to say "Hey Mickey, now don't forget to sing, sing out to the day, drive down to the States where a fortune's made, but when you're there...

Have to treat women like they're men, not pretty girls
Can't open doors for them no more".

Christmas time the kids were rhyming
Halleluja, with consumer
At the office christmas party, something started, now it's at an end...

decided to be friends, we'll never kiss again, it's doing in my head, tonight
Had a conversation but it doesn't matter, waste the night talking while you're mixing batter, i saw you flirting with a baker dressed in white, for sure

Walk towards the door

As I ran towards the door,
down the streets and passed the stop sign,
An illuminated wall,
held a message that was scrawled,
It was written very small,
so i went to get a closer look,
but the words were so bizarre,
so bizarre, so bizarre..
