Justin Sandlin - Don't open your mouth unless you have something good to say.

I am not a record buyer...I am a crook!

I'm a genius and you're stupid!!!!

Just kidding, of course. I don't think anyone is that much better than anyone else.

Then I guess I'm not sure what you're hearing that's so off unless it's just my performance itself.

I can see why the vocal recordings would be displeasing. They sound much better on headphones than they do on speakers. The double track effect sounds different the farther your speakers are apart. When listening with headphones, they reach your ears immediately.

I do agree though that they are the weak point. I'm just glad that people liked the composition itself. I'm happy with what I wrote. Producing is a whole 'nother story.

kinda loving this song. But the vocals do need work. It's not your voice, I like that just fine. But like others have mentioned, the vocals are uneven, I guess volumically. Not sure what to advise.

I love the harmonies when you sing "escape reason". And how the song quiets down right after.

Just like the last version, I like this in the order of a 4.5, but something about the vocals is holding me back on more stars. But I do think you wrote one hell of a song.

Eh... well I would say this song is 90% good work... unfortunately the 10% that stops me from giving this a higher rating is the vocals... I'm not sure every line being doubled helps, and the vocals jump in volume all over the place... maybe some compression would help... and I'm also hearing some offnote harmonies between the twinned vocals... pretty good job though.

Oh, and blasto, the thing you were hearing is my falsetto going through a canyon of reverb. But don't feel bad, Scott thought I put strings in the last version I did, hehe.

Hearing a lot of growth from last go round. Smart to keep the intro short. This shows much progress. I dig it. I'd like to hear one of the guitars as an overdriven electric, but blended in.

The vocals are good. You doubled them up, so sometimes they sound just a tad off. I think they're fine though. You could spend hours and hours perfecting them, and end up with a song that has character than it did before. I think the little imperfections are what make a song unique and special. IMO the vocal volume is great. I can't stand vocals way up in the mix, unless its rap or or top 40, in which case I just can't stand it. This is a great tune. I instantly recognized it. Well done.

this is a great song, the background vocals (falsetto and the 'yeahs') are perfect... love the driving piano, very mccartneyish in a way... it's got a very balanced vibe... overall, this is fantastic... the only weakness for me is the vocals are quiet in the mix, it's hard to tell if they need improvement in sections with more takes (re: blasto's comments), I think just crisper and louder in the mix... it's better than my usual 4 star rating for sure, definitely belongs on your first album, or greatest hits collection.

corn prices are apparently going way up due to the new ethanol (corn fuel) agreements with brazil... my brother-in law said he went to the local farmer's market and there was a sign up saying they weren't selling corn cause they refused to pay the farmer's prices...

Yeah- if those are acoustic guits behind the "I am what I will to be.." bits, they are very verby, right? Cool...

It goes "Wooooeeeooeoo - Wooooeeeeooeeeoooo" - you know, THAT part!

Thanks, blasto but there are no synth strings in this song. I guess what you're hearing is the acoustic guitar.

I could've done a better take on the vocals since I only did one take on them. Sometimes I can't tell when my voice is bad because it's my voice. I don't think I'm horribly pitchy or anything.

Unklesam, I used Corn because I felt corny. I guess I should pay out to the corn industry for using their beloved mascot to advertise my music. It's surely a violation of intellectual property rights!

Thoroughly enjoyable tune. Nicely put together...great changes and sounds throughout. I don't have a problem with the vocals. I don't here anything that distracts me, anyway, and I like the sound of your voice. Time and experience will bring refinement. I like the lyrics too. Good job, mang.

Way to go Justin. Very cool. I agree that vocals are the weak point here, but I'm also not vocally trained, so I have no constuctive crit on how to fix. I guess it seems like yer still trying to find your range/voice. Whateves. Is this the first round of stuff you are doing with a new recording set-up? Great start, if so! I dig that the synth strings that follow the vocal line are meshed within with the instrumentation as opposed to slicing through. That's a much more mature & disciplined sound as opposed to the out-of-the box type elementary schlock. (See: DJDouche)

Congrats, man.
4 stars, cause 5 is only for when I ejaculate from the vibrations that my speakers create.

this reminds me of Prince
it shouldn't but its a psychedelic pop song for sure

I'm against using Korn for cover art as well. I think using vegetables as a marketing tool should be banned.

I like it...good new version
This is another attempt at Escape Reason. It's one of my favorite compositions thus far because I was able to capture my mellow and melancholic nature in an upbeat, toe tapping song. I don't know if this song will ever be remembered or be memorable but I love it.

I mixed elements from the old version with new recordings. So, there are two tracks of synth piano and one track of real piano. There are four tracks of acoustic rhythm guitar. One track of acoustic bass and two tracks of an electric guitar being played as bass while being lowered an octave.

Also, my piano is out of tune by a semitone or more, so I had to do a lot of pitch tuning to get the recording in key. Mucho thanks to Greyfield for providing me with a microphone to get the crisper vocal sound. Go check out some of his material, it's good stuff.
