This is all written by a fan (Vickie). I have blanket permission to place Happy's music anywhere I want. She hates self-promotion and just wants her music to be heard. She's not trying to "make it" or whatever such ambitions are expected of a female singer-songwriter-musician who makes music because it's what she loves to do.

She lives on a farm in upstate New York and finally released her 11th album, and her first since 1998's Many Worlds Are Born Tonight, called Find Me (now on CD Baby and iTunes).

Happy Rhodes started making music when she was 11, when her mother gave her a guitar to play with. She started writing music soon after, and had become an accomplished songwriter by the time she was 14.

At 17 she began working as an apprentice engineer at a recording studio. The studio's owner heard her voice and songs and gave her free time to record everything she'd written up to that point. He introduced her to Kevin Bartlett, who owned Aural Gratification, a small, cassette-only label to release his own albums. He persuaded her to gather up all the individual songs and release them on his label. They found that she had enough for 3 albums (which became Rhodes I, Rhodes II, and Rearmament) and soon after came a 4th, Ecto. The "1st4" were released on hand-dubbed cassettes for several years before they were re-released on CD in 1992.

In 1991 Happy released Warpaint, her first album conceived and recorded as an album, and the first to be released on CD. Warpaint was followed by Equipoise, RhodeSongs (a compilation of earlier songs, plus some rarities and a cover of Bowie's "Ashes To Ashes"), Building The Colossus and The Keep, a beautiful compilation of acoustic versions and more rarities).

In 1997 Happy recorded the lush and science-fiction tinged Many Worlds Are Born Tonight. It was recorded mostly at home with the vocals recorded in her bathroom. She and Aural Gratificaton parted ways and Happy signed with a new label called Samson Music. They provided the artwork, a wide release, a small amount of promotion and a few live showcases for Many Worlds, then dropped her because they didn't know how to market her music and realized that she didn't fit in with their vision of the label's future.

On her own now, Happy released her 11th album, Find Me, funded by day jobs and self-released. She and her husband, musician Bob Muller, are building a home studio so that Happy will have an easier time of making music in the future.

Some musicians might be connected to Happy and not even know it. Her "day job" is hand-assembling high-end equipment for Dangerous Music.

It's my desire to share her music with as many people and in as many ways as possible. Thank you for listening.

- Vickie

I haven't found one song yet I dislike...I'll rephrase that,I haven't found one I CAN'T dislike..all are compelling,mixtures of aural imagery and sensory feasting...
Again, everything here works so well together, the words, the music and the over all feel of it...am entranced...

Lord, woman! Get out of my head! This is a masterwork--Strange how we never see Peter Gabriel, Annie Lenox and Happy all in the same room at the same time...(haha! ) Most excellent recording, playing and singing...Lyrics disturbingly seem to describe how I feel a lot of the time, so it was easy for me to connect. (Klonipin in low doses, along with musical therepy, helps!) Write on, sister!

Very enigmatic. I see what aaron is saying about Peter Gabriel - it's also got elements of Annie Lennox too - but it remains very original.

One for the collection.

reminds me of peter gabriel, weird... like, there are hooks in this song, but it's like there's rubber tips on them so they can never really hook... definitely a unique vibe.
This is the first track to Happy's upcoming new album Find Me, currently in pre-release to fans (CD Baby won't have it for a few weeks). I just made a MySpace page specifically about Find Me, with more songs from the album. It's at http://www.myspace.com/happyrhodesfindme

One And Many

That I am one and many is at the heart of my dis-ease
Yet I am one and many

That I am one and many is at the heart of my dis-ease
Yet I am one and many

I am hindered, also warm
I am injured like a dog
I've been righteous, but never angry
Lately I am just cold like tundra

That I am one and many is at the heart of my dis-ease
Yet I am one and many

Can't stop flinching
Really wanna need you
Wanna be in pictures
Find an exit fast
Can't stop flinching
Tell me that I'm ok
Driven for a future
Clinging to the past

I make danger where there is none
Just to put me back in the fear
I am skilled now at casting iron
To make a hardened bed for my heavy world

That I am one and many is at the heart of my dis-ease
Yet I am one and many

There are ten variations of me and
Each one is in peril
If I could guide their interactions
I'd never be alone
Again

That I am one and many
Explains why I move sideways
When all I want to do is go forward

That I am one and many is at the heart of my dis-ease
Yet I am one and many

Can't stop flinching
Really wanna need you
Wanna be in pictures
Find an exit fast
Can't stop flinching
Tell me that I'm ok
Driven for a future
Clinging to the past

(repeat)

(repeat)

Can't stop flinching
Everything is lethal
Looking for a hero
To get me outta this
Can't stop flinching
Tell me that you're ok
Looking for approval
And one last kiss
