ghengus23: great down dirty country rock feelin' from the start. Reminds me of social distortion. Not sure if...

Pauline Trouble - no real band...just me and my guitar(s), and sometimes a tamborine, casio, or a box...any real "live" drumming is someone else and from a long, long time ago...

yeah- I'd like to hear your crossover stuff, redone, since it's obvious you've matured a lot - just an idea. But you always surprise me, so I'll leave it at that. I gotta get back in the studio myself.

I've done a few demos with some slide stuff over the regular guitar track, and some have me playing basslines underneath...I have no idea where, or on which tapes...(Gotta start writing that stuff down more!) One day I may find a good one, or maybe I'll just have to try it again!

I really really like the higher range that you've displayed recently. Have you ever considered slide or Dobro as accompaniment? That's what I'm hearing in my head- some nice sliding going on, some replys to your calls. Nice stuff.

58 songs is insane!
I think the best thing you have going for you is your uniqueness ... that's awesome

Thanks, aaron, somethingonbroadway, for your encouraging comments. The song seemed like something that would've done well in the country market at that time, (especially with the more modern feel) but my original version was so much barer and maybe my singing was thrown off a bit by the music itself...Nice as it is, I was so used to my simple "girl with guitar" version. The insistant and inceasant drumbeat and I never came to terms, really. And I still wish this song could know what it's like to be swept away by violins...I think a violin could've done wonders for it.

A really sweet song. I didn't actually think the vocals were too bad, but it sounded like something else in the mix was interfering with them a bit.

vocals aren't up to your usual quality, but the song is a good solid country tune, as good or better than stuff i've heard on country radio/CMT when I've been scanning around stations. you have what it takes, for sure, i guess the rest is karma, etc...

Thanks for the comments, guys. For the fretwork and beats and studio work, I've got to thank Mike Land, who did the music after picking this song off one of my work tapes...(This was one of four he helped out on...) He spent so much time on the music and I do love what he did with it...but the vocals WERE recorded cold, no rehearsal time, probably on the first or second take...I had just come home from work (read: screaming at kids all day.) No, I gave up any dreams of "being the singer" long ago and settled for just enjoying the songs as they come to me...If I can help bring them into the world, I'm honored. But I WAS writing with a monetary motive during this period, so it's not as "true" to who I am as most of my other stuff here. This was so someone in Nashville might find an artist to place it with, and so I'd get a royalty check in the mail every now and again....a long-term subbing job came along and project "sell-to-Nashville" was abandoned...I have at least 58 copyrighted songs from this 3 year period. Ugggh! Can't watch CMT anymore at all...

If I have a Dixie Chick vibe at all here that would make sense...I listened to a lot of them back then, especially Fly, as my daughter had a copy we played in the car all the time, singing along...yeah, cool you picked up on that..Nice to be able to suprise you, Unk, and as a songwriter, I was suprised myself at that one. It aint perfect, but it was upbeat, and borderd on being a "love-song"-type song...Very strange for me...maybe it was the D.Chick influence...They turned me onto Patty Griffen though...she's amazing! (Ya'll check her out, now-I wouldn't steer ya wrong!)

ya know I love this song, almost celtic
and you have almost a dixie chicks approach vocally
nice fretwork, old song right?
I'm continually surprised

this has the potential to be a good song. I just think a LOT more time needed to be spent on the vocals. if she wants to be the singer she might need vocal lessons. nothing wrong, though, with writing songs for other folks to sing!

not bad, but it does sound kinda like a rough draft, so to speak
Take My Hand
Seems like not so long ago/ I was just sixteen or so-
And everything in my world was cool--
Now lookin' back over all those years/ A life so full of hopes and fears--
I see now, how life can be cruel--

But no matter how bad it gets/ How much it hurts, I won't forget--
The way I felt when you first took my hand--
No matter how hard we try, we just can't find a reason why/ life can't seem to turn out just like we'd planned--

C'mon, take my hand--(repeat chorus)

Seems like just the other day/ I thought I heard my mother say,
"Get out of bed, it's time for school--
So many miles gone past since then, but I've kept a little bit of every place I've been, and in the end, I've gotta say I've had my due..

No matter how far we roam, we can't go back, we can't get home
and every step forward brings us back--
No matter how hard we try, oh, will you ever realize--
lovin' you's like running barefoot in the sand?

C'mon, take my hand (repeat ad nauseaum)
