Pauline Trouble - no real band...just me and my guitar(s), and sometimes a tamborine, casio, or a box...any real "live" drumming is someone else and from a long, long time ago...

it might make it easier for you but personally speaking, i like knowing that you're there. i think it will be a bit of a bummer knowing that an algorithm is choosing song placement. but i'm an old timer here now, i guess. i've grown accustomed to your "face".

soon you will all be free of my nazi reign. disney and i are working on an automatic publishing algorithm. there'll be a formula for what vote combo gets you to what stage, and songs will be placed accordingly. why don't i just stick to a formula then, you may ask? well, i've tried, but i'm a man, not a machine! i just can't help putting things where i think they should go.

There's some mighty fine company on the short bus..haha It IS hard to get vocal inflections into type,I my self don't get bent out of shape and my comments are a LOT lighter than they appear to be written and they are more observations & ponderings than anything and I am a curious critter and sometimes want to know why but again its only a small thing cos our peers liking it makes me happy as heck AND the wonderful comments here have made me(the session guy ;)VERY happy..I'll think more and type less in the future k?

yes, let's don't get bitter about song placement. that's more of kanye west's gig. let's just make it and share it. you never know who might be listening!

yeah, it's all in good fun here, anyway. it's not like any of us are on our way to superstardom (no offense to anyone with real talent on this site, and of course i am not implying we are all talentless), just that you come to realize there is no reason to get bent out of shape because your song was "rejected" Some of my rejects have been tracks that I worked the hardest on, some that were published I did in the course of a couple hours. eventually you either leave the site, or succumb to the fact that we are just having fun listening to each others' version of creativity. and yeah, there might be a nazi in ultimate control, but you cannot say he is totally wrong, or has no taste. . . ; )

"Rigged" wasn't the word I meant, superfluous is closer to what I was thinking,I can see how a vote count can influence him but after all it IS his site so I guess he gets to run with the ball :)
Anyway,I just find that the votes aren't REALLY needed as the comments, and stars, say a lot more than if a song turns up on Featued,Second Stage or Rejects ans seeing as tho most of our peers really like this that means a hell of a lot more than where it sends up.

i wouldn't say that the voting is "rigged"; qualcom has been upfront that he considers the votes but then makes the final decision on song placement. as my stars below show, i disagree with him re this song, but overall, he does a pretty good job.

i'll also note that the majority of people i run into didn't and don't particular care for the real replacements and think they are over rated. perhaps that is because the remaining minority of people i run into have declared them the best rock 'n roll band ever. very few sit on the fence. we all know where i stand on this point, and pt too, i imagine.

Yeah,it's baffling how this happens.possibly bias but it really DOESN'T matter because it shows at the end of the day our peers are at least consistant, honest and give a reason as to why they like or don't like a song
So the voting is rigged,it doesn't matter cos y'all like it and that's what counts

Its like Australia. 5 stars for the effort, and the season.

Thanks, patricia- It was my pleasure to record vocals and percussion for this beautiful piece of work. If I can let more people hear the music of Paul Westerberg and The Replacements, then I 've made the world a better place...This song was kind of the story of my own life for a while back in the day also, and one of my all-time favorite Replacements songs...I'm glad you like it. Richie sure played beautifully , and he deserves a lot of credit here, too. Merry Winter Solstice! (I know it may officially be over, but...) Cheers! And next time you're howling at the moon, think of me...

nice! I just found this quote, totally irrelivant but it's funny so I'll post it
“Why are you having a normal conversation with him? This is a dairy farmer dressed as a woman.

“The end of the animal trade would leave more time to trap or beat to death pop star wannabes.”

“You are a saucy little thing aren't you?”

"You've got quite a good voice, the problem I have is this looks to me like 10 years ago.”

Beautifully said honey..and it was my utter pleasure to do this for you,I have NEVER put as much care or work into any recordings like I did with this one and how you sang it made the work damn well worthwhile.
I think this would be right at home on Lampshade two cos as you said, the other version misses the point of the song/tale...
I am SO glad you put me onto the mats, and yes as I am guitarded, especially Bobs work cos even tho he's been gone a wee while now,the man is teaching an old dawg new tricks

Hey, thanks, Messyberg! Thanks for the stars-and the link...Yes, and bless Paul Westerberg, who has the most astounding ability to reach through a person's chest, grab out their heart, show it to them, and then carry on as if nothing has happened. But we are left utterly changed, through and through...May his genious continue to produce life-affirming songs that touch us where we live, and catchy choruses and riffs that get stuck in our heads forever! Amen!

the "hoo" at the end is spectacular. this song is the last song on, what is in my opinion, the best rock 'n roll album ever made, and the last of the holy trinity at the end of that album (left of the dial, little mascara, left of the dial) that changed my life as much as music can do that sort of thing.

you captured the mats mood perfectly here; soulful and honest sounding. very cool.

Thanks, kids! I'm glad that over-all, most of you seemed to enjoy this offering. A special thanks to Richie, the guitarist of beautiful note on this great song, who made my singing and tamborine-playing that much better. I was kinda fond of this one myself(and my last-minute descision to "hoo" on the outro...)Richie's playing was so perfect to sing to, helped to bring a better vocal performance out...I could so easily 'see" that whole story just as I used to when I would play the record over and over back in college.(It was a cold winter where I was when the Tim album came out, and you have to imagine this poor drunk in Minneapolis, even colder...) I could relate to the alcoholism and shame and "ain't nothing else to do" excuses...(I kinda lived this poor schlepp's life for a while myself) It also makes me remember Bob Stinson, the Replacement's guitarist whose amazing ability to play in a manner so sharp, so cutting, so succinct( it really was really like musical poetry), was only matched by his ability to consume large quantaties of alcohol and pills...Hard not to hear this and think of him as the guy in the bar...Alcoholism's a lonely-as-#@&%! proffession, and I 've heard this same song treated as if it were a sing-along good-time drinkin' song. I don't think Paul meant it to be.(Check the lyrics.)Otherwise, it wouldn't have had strings come in at the end...Not many drinkin' songs that I can think of have strings....No, there is no "campfire version.", and will never be(from me).

It was a pleasure to sing this in the manner that I felt it deserved. Because of Richie's expertly-done guitar tracks, I was free to reach down into my bag of memories and feelings, and let this out. It was very theraputic...I realized that I am not that much like this guy anymore. I may still have a bit of resignation, but it's not about my inability to quit drinking-I took care of that 23 years ago now. I am responsible now. I care for another human being each and every day of my life now; her very life is in my hands every day. One can't live the life portrayed in this song and be a decent mom-So say a prayer for the kids out there who have moms and dads like this, and for those alcoholics still suffering from the disease of alcoholism. Bob Stinson died for our sins...Rest in Peace, Bob!

#@&%! yeah, this is feature worthy! love the tempo of it, the reverby solos and that pt vocal that hits... well, it fills that same hole that mr. westerberg himself fills for me. nailed the "drinking buddy" line. i've got a feeling (a feeling deep inside, oh yeah) that this version is going to age well for me.

Thanks go to Richie Isaacs for his gorgeous guitar work on this cover of Here Comes A Regular-done originally for the Westerberg/ 'Mats tribute CD, Bring Your Own Lampshade, Vol. 2-(I injured a fretting finger about a month ago, and won't be able to use it again til mid-February, so he has literally become my left-hand man, as well as my man.) Unfortunately, I found afterwards that my old "theme song" had already been covered by another duo on the 1st volume...Crap. Silver Lining: We can share with you. We also tackled I'm In Trouble, and I'm keeping things crossed. Richie absolutely tears it up on that one....
