MeatMachineII: yeah, it would be no easy feat. I don't know that a similarity to the iron butterfly part takes away...

Grant Dawson - Grant Dawson is a St. Paul-based songwriter and performer. Think Stephen Foster + Tom Waits + stride piano.

Very skillful, would have been more to my personal flavor if it were a little bit more raw, especially the arrangement is (too) smooth.

Lively and live sounding recording. Doesn't sound like something you'd hear on the radio today but it would be great as a concert addition. As a fellow vocal/ piano songwriter guy I appreciate what your doing Keep it up.

I'm guessing that Randy has done alright for himself

What's wrong with Randy Newman, anyway?

I'd say it's a blusier version of Randy's style if I may be too bold on that
actually, vocally I wouldn't change a thing and while I find QC's comment funny I disagree with that statement- pretty professional, contemporary, or cool

Maybe the vocals are fine, just play with some effects maybe.
Very skillful, master of your craft.

Little too Randy Newman for my taste... very tight though.

Thanks for all of the kind comments. I guess I'll take a consensus of "too smooth". I can understand, stylistically, where you're coming from... but I'm always trying to tighten things up. Maybe it's my insecurity! In any event, this song, and others, are available on iTunes. Just search my name and you'll find the album. Cheers.

smooth as silk! rad jam, the only thing that gets borderline smooth for me is the guitar/mandoline at the end. Otherwise, vocals and piano really stand out to me.

Cool, another upload from ya, good to hear some actual piano blues on here, would rather hear the piano than the accompanying guitar...nice work, vocals are fine, a little bit of Dr John grit wouldn't go astray but it's sweet as it is.

This is great, I like this kind of Dr.John piano bar vibe

this would be my favorite billy joel song, if billy joel released it. and it would probably be a huge hit in that scenario too. voice is good, lyrics are good, recording sounds good. might not be the type of thing i typically listen to, but theres no way i could not feature it.

Very smooth. I'd take another swing at the vocal, with a little more verve and funk, seems a little too concerned with articulation or something right now and needs more abandon maybe. But certainly feature material.

really really good lyrics, and great energy. music about music is hard to put together without being cliche, and you do just the opposite of that. well done

yeah great song. Alotta great stuff. I agree with paul on the vocals though. Its easy to sound bland when people sing songs about music (you don't really though). Some slang and scratches would accentuate the nice vibe you have though. Great chord progression and nice job mixing in all the instruments.
